Contemporary Artist Statement

Jacque's work is quite varied in genres as she believes themes and concepts can dictate an appropriate media to use. Jacque tends to work in the form of installation through sculpture, print (traditional and digital) and prose.

Jacque works intuitively whilst experimenting and aims to create works that have levels of meaning that engage an audience to see beyond what is in front of them, but also so that each audience member can take their interpretation.

Some of the key themes within Jacque's practice are; nature and the environment; Life and humanity; journeys; the imagination and the made-up world. These themes she approaches intend to get the audience to rethink them with a twist of creative thinking.

Ceramic Practice

Within Jacque's ceramics practice, she explores abstracted shapes and forms, through both hand building and slip casting. The aim is to create work that audiences want to touch and hold, to carry on that tactility from the making process.

Through experimentation with glazes, Jacque explores colours and textures that create mini-worlds within the form or highlight the shape of the ceramic. Both the decoration and the making are important to Jacque's practice as she wants both aspects to be equally appreciated by herself and the audience.
